The Rules of Steel Reign

Here at Steel Reign we are a community of people with a similar interest in the Pittsburgh Steelers and NFL football in general and, like any community, certain rules must be maintained in order to ensure the future value of the property.   It is our intention to implement a set of rules that will maintain a peaceful environment that encourages open debate and the freedom of expression while also providing a web site that is acceptable to people of all ages and backgrounds.

These rules are intended to be enforced fairly and reasonably throughout the entire community.   However, it is to be understood that this is a free service being provided to members, but the website itself is not free.   Ramstein pays an annual fee for the servers, amwreck spends many hours every year with site maintenance, and the moderators are tasked with helping members with posting problems, reviewing content, and making necessary changes within the forums.   This is work for which they do not receive pay.   In exchange for this work, they will be allowed a scope of freedom in which to enforce the rules and when the enforcement of a rule is in question, the benefit of the doubt will go to the enforcer.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these rules, please feel free to send a private message to Ramstein, amwreck, MdStihl, or Bupp.   You can also feel free to ask the community in an open forum.   Either method is acceptable.

The following rules have been implemented to help limit the conflicts concerning member behavior and post content on Steel Reign.

1.  Show respect to fellow community members.

This one simple rule will prevent many problems from happening.  Please remember that all members on Steel Reign, regardless of their opinions, are entitled to the same respect as you.  You do not have to agree with a fellow member’s opinions, nor do you actually have to like a fellow member, but respect is required.   When you are debating over a difference in opinions remember this simple phrase, “Attack the idea, not the person.”

2.  Obscenity

Swearing is common for most of us.   We use it in our everyday language with people that we know well.   However, in accordance with the rule regarding respect, we do not allow obscenities in any room except the Steel Cage.   The administrators may choose to utilize the auto-censors to eliminate obscenities from the entire message board.   When this happens, the Steel Cage will also be altered.   Attempts to fool the auto-censors by misspelling or using other characters to represent letters will result in the post being deleted.   In order to allow for the enjoyment of the Steel Cage where the rules are suspended, please be respectful in the other rooms and refrain from the use of any profanity.

3.  Pornography is not allowed.

The members at Steel Reign come from all walks of life and are of all ages.  For that reason, no material that could be considered of an adult sexual nature is allowed to be posted anywhere.   This will be judged by the moderators and administrators on a case by case basis.  Their decision is final.  The only exception is the Steel Cage.   However, even in the cage, no nudity is allowed.

Links to suggestive material should also be posted in the Steel Cage.   If a link to suggestive material is posted in another forum, a warning should be provided for users that the content of the link may be inappropriate for work and children.   If an administrator or moderator deems that the post should me moved to the Steel Cage, they may split it from the topic, move the topic, or delete the post as they feel necessary.

4.  Avatars and Signatures

Avatars are allowed and can be no larger than 150x150px.   We understand that this is smaller than most message boards allow, but we are a discussion forum.   Avatars are not the primary purpose.   Animation is allowed in the avatar, but it must be tasteful and not draw attention away from the content of the forum.   The administrators and moderators reserve the right to require a person to remove their avatar if it is deemed to be inappropriate for the Steel Reign community.

Signatures are also allowed and can contain up to 255 characters.   They can also contain images.   The images can be no larger than 175px in height.   There will be no animation allowed in signatures.   If an animated signature is used, it will be deleted at the discretion of the administrators and moderators.

5.  Posting Articles

We all want to share information about the Steelers and that is why we are here.  However, do not cut and paste entire articles from other news sources.  It is ok to quote a short section of an article and provide a link to the full article.  Some consideration will be given for short press releases that are posted in their entirety, but a link to the source must be provided.  Any posts in violation of this rule will be deleted.

6.  Ramstein’s Rule

If you simply can't seem to come to the realization that message forums are not just about you, then you need to jump off now, get a big sharp pencil and stab yourself right in the eye.

These rules are subject to change at any time without notice.
