The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Wildcard Weekend

by Islander

Bungles fans are crying about getting whipped without their starting QB. So what if Carson Palmer went down, injuries happen in football. I'm neither sorry nor happy, all I know is that the Cinci defense could not stop us from the middle of the second quarter on. Palmer, if I remember correctly, doesn't play on defense. Now the bungles players have tee times, #9 has surgery scheduled and the Steelers move on to Indy on the strengh of a solid second half running game and winning the TO battle. Imagine that.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Week 16

The Steelers, to no one's surprise, did what they had to do to make the playoffs: they beat a bad team at home. What troubles me is that they came out flat and had it not been for a stellar ST effort the game may have turned out differently. That bothers me. Will the way this game played out make a difference next week at Cinci? Tune in next Sunday at 4:30PM to find out...

Road Warrior

There really is no one like him in the NFL. Go on the road in the NFL this year and 59% of the time you come home a loser. Bucking the odds has been the forte of this young buck from Findlay, Ohio. Since Ben Roethlisberger's opening start vs. the Dolphins in early 2004, he's become the ultimate road warrior in the National Football League.

Total Domination. Absolute destruction. Complete demoralization. This is the third shutout the Steelers have hung on the stains since 1999. We still have some more pain to inflcit on you, brownies. Wait untill next year! I still remember that 51-0 shellacking they put on us at TRS to start a season. I remember the fans and players making fun of us. All I can say now is: Cleveland Sucks!!!!

Call me bitter, but I won't say anything about the team that just won our division because I'm still not convinced they are for real. We may find out in three weeks, though, if the Steelers do what they need to do the rest of the way. And another thing: the Colts may be 15-1 this year but that doesn't guarantee them a trip to XL, and we can all say that from recent past experience. On to the game, then.

Mojo. Let me tell you about Steel Reign Mojo. The Mojo is what gives the Steeler fans their power. It's an energy field created by all living Black and Gold fans. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the Steeler galaxy together. I (unlike Phraink ) apparently have a high hypocycloid count, therefore the Mojo was with me/us Sunday.

It was a perfect game, played in perfect conditions - cold and snow showers - in a city and a stadium tailor-made for such an event. And I was there to watch the Steelers whip another traditional franchise. What more could I have asked for?

I was unable to watch the game live so I taped it for viewing later in the afternoon. I turned it on at 4:15PM and watched up to the point where we tied the game at 24. At that time my wife and I had to leave for a Christmas party so I figured I'd pick it up at that point when we returned.

Mamma said there'd be nights like this. The odds were stacked against us. On the road, on MNF, in a noisy rug dome where we've played but twice since 1997 against a team chasing immortality and riding a 9 game-winning streak against said team. "I had a bad feeling about this." Damn evil Sith Lords...

The Good - We are starting to get injured players back. No, they are not quite there yet, it just doesn't work like that. They need to shake the rust off, get in game-shape and such.

The Good, the Bad and the Maddox - Week 10

This is what we got from Tommy Maddox today: from absolute single-handedly-losing-a game goat against Jacksonburgh we get an upgrade to crassly inept game management and quarterbacking against baltiless. Either way you cut it you have two losses on games started by TM. Speaking of cutting, can't we just cut TM and bring Kran back? We have al the QBs we need with Batch, when he returns, ARE and Ben.

So here we sit at 6-2 at the midway point of the season. That pans out to a 12-4 season. Do we feel good about that or do we feel lucky? I say both. We probably should be 7-1 and could have easily been 5-3. Regardless, after seeing our backup QBs' performance it is painfully obvious that next year we have to get some new blood in there to carry that clip board - someone with more talent that what we have now. Because if Ben goes down for an extended period of time we'll certainly end up with a high draft pick.
